You can do it by iterating the list in steps of 2 and then using
retStr = ""
for i in range(0, len(s), 2):
retStr += s[i]*(2*i + 2)
You need 2 times the index, so "2*i" , then you also need to add 2, so we just repeat the character by "2*i + 2"
