How do you import a FBX/OBJ model into a Babylon scene?

babylon js import mesh
babylonjs asset manager
babylon js preloader
babylon file format
babylonjs playground
babylonjs fundamentals
babylonjs stl
babylonjs online

I am in the process of learning BabylonJS.

How do you add a 3D model into an already existing BabylonJS scene? I have a scene of a building and I want to add a grand piano into the interior of the building. The piano is a 3d model in OBJ and FBX form.

Thanks!

Load from any file type - glTF, OBJ, STL, etc., How to Use Scene Loader. The built in file type is .babylon and Babylon.js can load these without a plugin. Select the FBX file containing the scene you wish to import. Choose the destination folder in your Unreal project. Using the FBX Scene Import Dialog, select the assets (static meshes, skeletal meshes, and materials) from your scene you would like to import.

I do not know if your question is of some importance still for you but you could also try the very good FBX2glTf converter

https://github.com/facebookincubator/FBX2glTF

It can even handle blend shapes, materials, draco-compression etc. It's easy to build and works very fast. Maybe you give that thing a try.

Use the OBJ File Loader Plugin, Your model doesn't have to be triangulated, as this loader will do it automatically. Mesh will be created for each object/group; The obj model As a workaround, you can modify your imported model's UV  There is no need for a separate OBJ or FBX converter in order to do this either. You can simply export 3D models as OBJs or FBXs from the native design program that you are using. This can be done in almost any design or 3D modeling software. Once you have completed your export to OBJ or FBX, you can then bring the model into your AR/VR

You've got to use the Assets Manager.

const assetsManager = new BABYLON.AssetsManager(scene);
const meshTask = assetsManager.addMeshTask('piano task', '', './assets/', 'piano.obj');
meshTask.onSuccess = (task) => {
    const pianoMesh = task.loadedMeshes[0];
    // Do something with the mesh here
}
assetsManager.load();

If your mesh is in the .OBJ format, then you'll need to use babylonjs-loaders.

Import 3D model to babylon - Questions & Answers, Hello, How can we import any 3D model with all meshes and animation .fbx than convert that file to .babylon format and create scene for that. FBX export/import needs to be updated from 2009 to 2016 or higher. FWIW, we already are currently on the 2018 SDK, and will probably see a move to the 2019 SDK soonish. The material problems (also round-tripping with Rhino) I already fixed before the first 6.12 Release Candidate was released I think (or at least in very early stage).
