Hello I am getting a ExecJS::RuntimeError in Demo#index

Below is the line 6 that was highlighted and below that is my full trace. Can someone either A: point me in the right direction to debug this as well as a good reference for debugging rails. I am new to rails. My guess is i'm missing a gem (i checked to make sure turbolinks was there) or something in turbolinks is wrong. I'm using Rails 4 using rails installer (after updating gems and rails and bundle install etc.).

Below is also my gemfile

Line 6 is highlighted:

<%= javascript_include_tag "application", "data-turbolinks-track" => true %>

I got the same error and fix it :)

  1. Open the Gemfile
  2. Add these lines: gem 'execjs' gem 'therubyracer'
  3. Save the changes in the file
  4. Execute bundle install on the terminal

Rails 5.0.2 raising ExecJS::RuntimeError when changing CSS , I created a rails 5.0.2 application, importing .scss files from app/assets/stylesheets directory in the application.scss file using @import like this  I am running Ruby 1.8.7 and Rails 3.2 on Ubuntu 11.10. I had this issue before and solved it by installing node.js (using the MSI installer).

Hope this helps.

Don't know if the problem in the question is exactly the same as mine (got the same trace though). Anyway, here is one solution for execjs runtime error on Windows: solution by Rodrigo Argumedo

Ruby on Rails ExecJS::RuntimeError in Pages#home, I generated a page using a controller. But when I go to the localhost:3000/pages/home. I got this error: ExecJS::RuntimeError in Pages#home  ExecJS provides a lowest common denominator interface to any JavaScript runtime. Use ExecJS when it doesn't matter which JavaScript interpreter your code runs in. If you want to access the Node API, you should check another library like commonjs.rb designed to provide a consistent interface.

This worked for me. This problem occurs mainly in Windows OS. Force your Coffee Script Source version to 1.8.0. Higher versions are not supported properly.

Change or add this to your gem file:

gem 'coffee-script-source', '1.8.0'

then update the coffee-script-source bundle

bundle update coffee-script-source

This should fix the issue.
